This summer I had the opportunity to attend Kappa Delta Chi’s National Conference. This year celebrated our 25th anniversary and in commemoration brought our sisterhood home to Lubbock, Texas & Texas Tech University. Ana Williams and I were our Chapters Ambassadors. We were also joined by our Alpha Eta Alumnae – Jessica Arellano, Cynthia Esparza, Hilda Gallardo and Carolina Martinez.
Attending the conference was definitely an inspiring experience. I met sisters from around the nation. There were sisters who contributed to this year’s 40,000 hours of service. Sisters who are making a difference in their community. Sisters who are ambitious and want to reach their full potential through education. Sisters who say ya’ll and sisters who had never traveled west of the Mississippi.
Everywhere I walked, I saw a sea of pink and maroon. The strength and interconnectedness of our sisterhood was clearly visible.
However, I must say that the most memorable encounter was meeting our 4 Founders. It was an honor to meet the four women that set the foundation of our sisterhood. They joined us throughout the conference, had a Q & A session, shared their words of wisdom, joined us at our 80’s inspired social and took countless pictures with everyone. I am certain they felt like celebrities.
As a chapter and region, we also were ecstatic. Alpha Eta received an Academic Excellence Award, a National Foundation Recognition Award, and our Western Region received the Outstanding Region of the Year Award.
Conference will be in Seattle next summer. Can’t wait to experience it again!
